MIDWESTERN DANDIES

The Whimsy and Wit of Tom Stack, Chris Kerr, and Allen Christian

January 19th - April 30th

Opening Reception: January 19th 6 PM - 11 PM

The Midwest is known for it’s benign demeanor, but also it’s underlying competitiveness. Rivalries abound in sports, music and the arts. Amazing pockets of vibrant ideas and culture abound between wastelands of field and forest, and rarely do we seem to mix and meet.

The Gallery at Fox Tax is proud to present a display of whimsy and wit from three artistic representatives of our great Midwestern cities of Milwaukee, Chicago, and Minneapolis. Our hope is to both portray the similarities and the distinctiveness of each artist, create a dialog between these different artistic communities, and also stoke a little healthy rivalry that doesn’t involve pigskin OR steroids.

Seagull Flight for Life

Tom Stack is 36 years old and resides in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In addition to being a self-taught painter, he is a degreed electrical engineer, willingly employed as a public librarian. Much of his free time is consumed by adding to his ongoing series of non-wildlife bird paintings.

Chris Kerr

Chris Kerr, currently living in Chicago, seemingly hails from a magical world of myth and wonder. His paintings detail a fantastical world populated with witches, elves, unicorns and exotic animals galore. Yet somehow, his matter-of-fact style somehow avoids any hints of Middle Earth and stolen comic book references. Instead, these paintings detail a world somehow fantastical, yet plausible, as if this vibrant world is right under our noses, and only Chris Kerr seems to have noticed it.

Old Blue Eyes by Allen Christian

Allen Christian has, for over 18 years, run the House of Balls in the Warehouse District of Minneapolis. It is a strange world filled with his bizarre interactive sculptural creations. We are very excited to be displaying some of his newest works, all of which are sure to give a glimpse of both the world within and without the mind of this unique and inquisitive artist.

Please join us on the evening of January 19th. All three artists will be present and would love to discuss the creations on display.

Gallery Hours:
Wednesday - Saturday Noon - 5 PM or by Appointment at 612-824-2829.
