The Gallery @ Fox Tax is proud to present a show by guest curator Emma Berg of mplsart.com, entitled:
Randomness, Control, and the Loss or Attainment of Both Those Things
This solo exhibit of artist Miles Mendenhall introduces a new body of work focused on control and chaos. It represents a drastic change from his previous self portrait pieces.

Half of the work that will be on display is focused on controlled arrangement and organization of miniscule shapes to create large scale geometric patterns that are both soothing and addictive. The utilization of the cross within the patterns becomes cult-ish in its repetition. Adding immaculately constructed modern pyramids and other geometrics relics of a new time into the installation references a “future” church dedicated to process and systems.
In creating this new body of work, Miles states “I’ve begun writing formulas based on spatial geometric theory, substituting a lot of the personal decision making for something that’s already pre-ordained. Setting it up so that there are right and wrong answers when dealing with scale, angles, form, etc.”
The geometric patterns are partnered with pulsating florescent orange smiley faces that drip at the eyes and mouth evoking chaos in comparison to the other work. Combining the seemingly different works together allows the viewer to ask themselves what they really are in control of.

Miles Mendenhall is a recent graduate of the University of Minnesota.
